Selection and admission

Applications are evaluated by the admissions committee based on scientific competence, merit and the letters of recommendation. Incomplete applications or applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

To reach a decision with regard to short-listing, other selection procedures may be applied as well, such as telephone interviews, and/or the submission of a research proposal on a given research topic. Candidates who are eventually nominated for the shortlist will be invited directly for an on-site interview in Marburg (travel expenses will be covered by the Research School); alternatively, a video interview may be conducted.

Interviews are planned for the middle of April, 2012 as a part of the selection symposium. During this three day symposium, students present research conducted as part of their diploma/Master project, faculty present short introductions to Ph.D. projects in the respective groups, and students interview with select faculty of interest . In due consideration of the candidate's performance during the interview, the admissions committee will make its final decision.

The teaching programme starts on October 1, 2012, but students that have been accepted into the program may be able to arrange with supervising faculty to start the research programme earlier.
